Hello friends! I wanted to give you an update on our adoption process and how things are going!
Gavin and I have been taking a parenting class every Wednesday from 6-9pm. This parenting class will allow us become certified foster parents. You’re probably asking, “Is this what you guys were going for?” or “what happened to your adoption plan?” Great questions! It is interesting how life can play out and how God directs our paths. Let me break it down a little.
Our initial plan was to adopt through the state we live in. The only way to do that is to adopt through foster care. However it’s not that simple. Foster care has its own mission and vision for kids. Foster care is a temporary placement for a child so that the parents can receive the help they need so that the child can be reunited with them again one day. These parents do not want their children to go and are in a lot of emotional pain when a child is taken from them. As foster parents we would assume the role as parent and care for the child’s needs. We would not be placed with a child who is needing to be adopted because the hope and goal is that they would be able to be reunited with their family. Ten percent of children in foster care are not able to be reunited with their family and are in need of a permanent home. Those ten percent will begin an adoption plan!
Ok so what does all that mean for us? We are not abandoning God’s call to adoption, we are just shifting gears for a bit and are going to help a child in need of a loving environment until they can be reunited with their family!
[Just to clear things up adoption has a different mission and vision for children than foster care. I should say, they have a different role! Adoption is when the biological parent has decided that they want an adoption plan for their child. Gavin and I would also like to bring those children into our hearts and home.]
We want the doors to be wide open. We don’t want to “get in the way” of God’s plan. Your prayers would be so greatly appreciated! Thank you so much for reading. I would love to hear your thoughts on the two types of ways children are being helped in our communities.
